Did you know that Lancaster once hosted the 'one of the most popular African American speakers of his era'?
William Pickens was a Black activist, intellectual, writer and campaigner who travelled around the globe from Hawaii to Spain in the 1920s and 1930s, even travelling to the Soviet Union. In 1927, he gave a speech at the Quaker Meeting House in Lancaster. Historian Henry Holborn shares a unique story.
