What is the Lechón Showdown?

The Lechón Showdown in Austin by Latin City is a culinary competition bringing together 10 chefs showcasing different lechón traditions from Latin America, the Caribbean, and beyond. Guests taste the competing entries, compare their favorites, and vote to help crown the champion.

When and where is the event?

Saturday, April 17, 2027
Chalmers Austin
1700 E. Cesar Chavez St.
Austin, TX 78702

VIP Entry: 11:00 AM
General Admission: 12:00 PM
Event Ends: 5:00 PM

What does my ticket include?

Admission includes one official lechón tasting from each of the 10 competing chefs, championship voting, live Latin music, sponsor activations, samples and giveaways, and access to the awards ceremony.

Additional food, sides, desserts, and beverages may be available for purchase.

Is this an all-you-can-eat event?

No. This is a tasting competition, not an all-you-can-eat event. Your ticket includes one official tasting from each competing chef.

How big are the tastings?

Each competitor will serve an approximately 2-ounce tasting portion of their lechón. With 10 competitors, guests have the opportunity to sample approximately 20 ounces or 1.25 pounds of lechón across the complete tasting experience.

What's the difference between VIP and General Admission?

VIP guests enter at 11:00 AM, one full hour before General Admission.

The VIP Preview provides first access to all competing chefs, shorter lines, more opportunities to interact with competitors, and early access to sponsor activations and giveaways.

VIP guests can remain at the event through 5:00 PM.

General Admission begins at 12:00 PM and also continues through 5:00 PM.

What are the ticket prices?

VIP Super Early Bird — $89
VIP Early Bird — $99
VIP Standard — $119

GA Super Early Bird — $49
GA Early Bird — $59
GA Advance — $79
GA Standard — $89

Applicable taxes and ticketing fees may be added at checkout.

Why do ticket prices increase?

Earlier purchasers receive the best pricing. Once a pricing tier ends, tickets move to the next available tier. The event experience does not change based on which GA pricing tier you purchase.

Do Super Early Bird and Early Bird tickets include less?

No. The different GA tiers represent when you purchased your ticket, not different admission experiences.

A $49 GA Super Early Bird ticket provides the same GA experience as an $89 GA Standard ticket.

The same principle applies to VIP pricing.

How does the competition work?

Each chef presents their own interpretation of lechón. Guests taste the entries and participate in voting to help determine the winners.

Award categories are expected to include Best Overall Lechón, People's Choice, Best Crunch, Best Seasoning, and Best Presentation, with additional categories potentially announced.

Do I actually get to vote?

Yes. Attendee participation is a major part of the Lechón Showdown experience. Voting instructions will be provided at the event so guests can cast their votes after tasting the competing entries.

What countries will be represented?

The event is designed to showcase lechón traditions from Latin America, the Caribbean, and beyond. The official competitor lineup and represented countries will be announced as participating chefs are confirmed.

Will every chef serve the same type of lechón?

No—and that's the point.

Different cultures and chefs approach lechón differently through marinades, seasonings, cooking methods, sauces, presentation, and techniques for achieving crispy skin. The Showdown gives guests an opportunity to experience those traditions side by side.

Will there be other food available?

Yes. Participating chefs may offer select complementary items such as sides, desserts, and other specialties for purchase in addition to their official competition tasting.

Will beverages be available?

Yes. Beverage options and sponsor sampling will be available throughout the event. Specific beverage partners and offerings will be announced closer to the event. Chalmers will be the official provider of all adult beverages.

Will there be live entertainment?

Yes. Live Latin music and additional entertainment will be part of the event experience.

Will there be free samples or giveaways?

Yes. We're working with event partners and sponsors to provide product sampling, activations, and giveaways throughout the Showdown. Specific partners will be announced as they are confirmed.

Can I buy additional servings of the competition lechón?

Your ticket guarantees the official tasting experience described with your admission. Competition portions are primarily reserved to ensure ticket holders can experience the competing entries.

Additional food offerings may be available for purchase separately.

Do I have to arrive exactly when admission begins?

You don't have to arrive at the exact opening time, but arriving early is strongly recommended so you have plenty of time to visit the competitors, enjoy the entertainment and sponsor experiences, and cast your votes before the competition closes.

Can VIP guests stay after General Admission begins?

Yes. VIP admission begins at 11:00 AM, and VIP guests can stay through the end of the event at 5:00 PM.

Can I upgrade my GA ticket to VIP later?

VIP upgrades may be offered if VIP admission remains available. Because availability cannot be guaranteed, guests who want the VIP experience should purchase VIP when booking.

Are tickets refundable?

All ticket sales are final unless the event is canceled or otherwise stated in the official ticketing policy. Tickets are transferable unless otherwise specified.

Is the event family-friendly?

Yes. The Lechón Showdown is designed as a food and cultural experience that can be enjoyed by families. Although there are no age-specific ticketing policies.

What happens if it rains?

The event is scheduled to proceed as planned unless weather or other conditions make doing so unsafe. Any significant schedule changes will be communicated to ticket holders through the contact information provided when purchasing tickets.
