Learn to use a Sewing Machine workshop

Got a sewing machine and don’t know where to start? Keen to refresh your skills? This is the workshop for you!

Knowing your way around a sewing machine is a valuable life skill that can save you money and reduce your impact on the environment. This workshop will give you skills, confidence and inspiration to begin your sewing journey.

Jane will introduce you to the anatomy of your sewing machine and how to set it up, then guide you as you try out the different stitches on paper before putting your new skills into practice with a simple scrap fabric project.

This relaxed pace, small group workshop is designed for beginners.

We will provide:

• sewing machine if you need to borrow (email [email protected] to reserve)
• all materials, fabrics and threads for sampling and projects
• printed worksheets to take home
• organic, Fairtrade hot drinks and palm oil-free biscuits

What to bring

• your sewing machine if you have one
• your sewing machine's power cable, instruction manual and any accessories
• a simple sewing kit (sewing needles, pins, seam ripper)
• a pair of good quality fabric scissors

All requests are confidential, and we offer a no questions asked policy. We will do our best to accommodate but, in the event, where the workshop is already full, we can discuss future options.

Your host

Your host for this workshop is Jane Walton. Known locally as owner of Reticule Fabrics in Kendal until she retired in 2022, Jane is a sewing instructor with years of experience helping people learn a wide variety of sewing skills. We are delighted to partner with Jane to offer you this workshop and more in 2025.

Refunds and Cancellations

Tickets will be refunded if:

• The event is cancelled
• The event is rescheduled, and you cannot make the new date
• The event changes location, and you cannot attend
• If you have been charged a booking fee, unfortunately this cannot be refunded.

Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds if:

• You can no longer attend the event due to personal circumstances
• You have changed your mind about attending the event

We bring together people with skills to repair and those who want to learn how. Our aims at Simply Repair are to reduce waste, share skills, improve wellbeing and build communities.
