Are you looking to take your sewing to the next level? Would you like to tackle making a shirt? The Deer and Doe Melilot blouse is the perfect pattern for a shirtmaking newbie; a casual shirt with dropped shoulders, cuffed sleeves and the option of a mandarin or rounded collar. It's got a beautiful curved hem and looks perfect with both skirts and trousers.
Please note that in order to maximise sewing time during the workshop, attendees will be sewing up the non-concealed placket and the short sleeves. The pattern will also be sent out in advance of the workshop for students to cut out their fabric in advance. Help will be given selecting pattern size if needed.
You will learn:
How to construct a shirt to your size and make simple fitting alterations
How to sew a standard or mandarin collar
How to sew a button placket
How to sew a curved hem
How to sew sleeves with a dropped shoulder and cuffs
How to attach a breast pocket (optional)
How to machine stitch buttons and buttonholes
How to sew neat topstitching
You will need to bring:
1.3m of 150cm (60") wide or 1.9m of 115cm (45") wide light to medium weight woven fabric. Suitable fabrics include cotton lawn, chambray and flannel. If you are more confident with handling fabrics then a viscose would also be suitable.
Matching thread
11 buttons (5/8")
0.7m fusible interfacing in a weight to match your fabric.
The PDF pattern will be sent out to you in advance of the workshop to cut out your fabric in order to maximise sewing time on the day.
Please get in touch if you have any questions or would like help selecting your fabric or choosing your size.
It is strongly recommended to pre wash your fabric prior to cutting out to allow for any shrinkage.
