Learn to Line Dance
About this Event
Yeehaw! Join Robyn (yep, of Queer Makers' Market fame)for monthly line dancing at the Hall. You’re absolutely invited for zero pressure, maximum silliness, and a sweet little reset with new friends.
This line dance class is geared toward absolute beginners in line dance, people who haven’t danced since they were six, and people who are nervous about dancing now that they are adults.
Participants need no prior dance education or special attire, just an open mind and a willingness to be gentle with themselves while they learn something new. This class is open to all ages and abilities (listener discretion may be advised based on some music choices).
It is located in the ballroom on the third floor, accessible via stairs and elevator. Mechanics’ Hall is located at 519 Congress Street in downtown Portland, ME, and is accessible via ramp.
First Tuesday of the month: September 1, October 6, November 3, December 1, January 5, & February 2 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM, doors open to the public at 5:45 PM. Classes are drop-in; come to one or all!
ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Robyn (she/her) is a queer artist and community organizer living in Scarborough, ME. She comes to dance instruction via a long and storied career path (English Language Arts teacher, nanny, event photographer, and organizer of Portland’s Queer Makers’ Market) all spinning out from the common central focus of magnifying the skills and joys of other human beings. She started line dancing in March of 2025 and immediately fell in love with its accessibility and versatility as a somatic response to our current sociopolitical climate. Her core beliefs are that anyone can dance and anyone can learn. Her favorite dancers are children at weddings and people who do that little wiggle when they eat good food.
PARKING & TRANSPORTATION
The Greater Portland Metro’s Congress & Casco Street Stop is directly in front of our building, served by routes 1, 7, 8, and 9B.
Street Parking: Available on Congress, Casco, Cumberland, Free Street, and nearby streets. Pay by meter or the Passport Parking App. Free after 6 PM, on Sundays, and between Parris and Alder Street. Some blocks may vary — look for posted signs.
Garages: The Arts District Garage (41 Brown St) has 250+ spaces, is open 24/7, and accepts credit card only, with entrances on Brown, Cumberland, and Casco. The Elm Street Garage (21 Elm St) is conveniently near the Portland Library. The Spring Street Garage is three blocks away at 45 Spring St.
ACCESSIBILITY
To enter our building, patrons will need to navigate a single step. There is a wheelchair-accessible elevator and a modular ramp.
