What is a sabre?
That’s a big question! Sabre is a term used to describe several different kinds of single-handed swords that were used for cavalry operations, as military dress, for duelling and for sport throughout Western Europe from the 17th century to present. 🎓
We will discuss the different kinds of sabres, their appearance and uses in this course, the techniques covered in will predominately focus on the use of sabres in the duel, drawing from italian fencing sources, the tradition of the duello di soddisfazione (duel of honour), as well as their use in a modern Olympic and HEMA context. 🤺
This class is suitable for all levels, whether you’re completely new to the scene or a seasoned historical fencer looking to brush up on your skills. All equipment will be provided so just come as you are and we’ll teach you the rest. 🎒
