Originally published in 1879, this tome is a historical account
of the July 5, 1779, raid led by British Generals William Tryon
and George Garth. It features firsthand eyewitness recollections, official military records, and documents how local militia units, including Yale students and older citizens, bravely tried to halt
the British advance at the West Bridge (near modern-day
Ella Grasso Boulevard and Route 1.)
