Learn meditation using your breath, hands and voice
About this Event
Join us in Brighton to practice meditation
Many people have been taught meditation is closing your eyes and being still. That's a great place to start, and if you're looking for something new, you can expand from here using your breath, hands and voice.
During these sessions you can practice a series of meditations to become a part of your toolkit. Specific meditations have been developed for those everyday challenges - including calming stress, taking care of the heart and others to work on your mind. Each uses a precise combination of breath, mantra, and hand position (mudra), simple to learn, easy to repeat on your own, and almost always seated.
No app, no background track, no dependency
Our mind follows our breath. Learn to control your breath and you learn to control your mind - no app, no background track, no dependency on a voice guiding you every time. Just technique and repeatable patterns, the same way you'd practice any skill worth having.
This is a monthly gathering for people who want to actually learn this, not just sample it once. Each session introduces three meditations from this toolkit - you leave with an experience and encouragement to practice daily, on your own, in minutes. The aim is that you work towards your own regular meditation. That's the philosophy: the teacher elevates you and hands you the tool.
Minimal movement. Mostly breath, head positions to seal your energy, and stillness. encouraged to be experienced or curious. Herbal tea and a cup of cacao afterward, for anyone who wants to stay, share, and connect.
Your teacher - Ed McCulloch
Ed discovered yoga in Asia thirty years ago, almost by accident, while taking an old style traditional Thai massage course for fun. He didn't know then that it would eventually become part of his daily life and a way to serve others.
Back in Brighton, he explored many styles of yoga and enjoyed them all. His body was flexible and strong, but something was still missing: he was looking for a practice that trained the mind as much as the body. He found it in Kundalini Yoga, with physical movement throughout the body including voice, paired with meditations that gave him real tools to work with his ADHD and autism, alongside a highly stressful working life.
At 45, he was welcomed into the yoga community and began to support teachings of yoga and meditation within local charities. His most recent project is with the Russell Martin Foundation's Extra Time programme, where he has sponsored one of his teachers, to bring meditation to teenagers in Brighton.
Ed is a KRI-certified Level One Kundalini Yoga Teacher. He teaches meditation as a practical, repeatable skill, not a one-off experience, with the aim of helping people build their own daily practice.
Meditation
Meditation is a practice that helps you to come out of your mind and connect to your body. Every mind has its own frequency and bringing the mind and body frequencies together is the essence of meditation.
Meditation uses the breath as a way to guide you through the practice and keep you centered. This breath that is cultivated during your meditation supports you during and after the practice - during the day.
