Learn the art of baking delicious sourdough bread in this hands-on workshop. Baking bread is both science and craft and you’ll learn the secrets to creating delicious and crusty loaves. This workshop will cover creating and nurturing a sourdough starter, tools and equipment, ingredients, prep, baking and troubleshooting. We will sample a variety of fresh sourdough loaves to talk about variations in taste and texture. During the workshop, we will mix, prep, and shape dough to take and bake at home the following day. Your class fee includes a glass jar with sourdough starter, a proofing basket to use and keep, plus written instructions and recipes. Students need to bring 1) a large mixing bowl 2) a kitchen towel 3) an apron (optional). At home, you will need a Dutch oven or roasting pan with lid that can be safely heated to 450 degrees.
March class is held at the Shelton Campus. May class is held in Bremerton.
