Learn About Quillwork with Dyson Brown
Brown will be set up in the Gallery Lounge on the third floor near the exhibition Dyani White Hawk: Love Language which features mixed-media works by White Hawk that incorporate quillwork.
This is drop-in and no registration required. Free with membership or admission by donation.
Dyson Brown is from Canupawakpa Dakota Nation and grew up off reserve in the small town of Miniota, located north of his reserve. He had the privilege of growing up knowing his culture and where his lineage comes from.
He currently resides on the Whitecap Dakota Nation, and works at the Charles Red Hawk Elementary School as an EA/ Dakota Language assistant. When not busy with work or his daughter, he dances powwow and crafts items revolving around powwow or his culture.
Brown learned quilling technique from his mother and says that he watched how she did it and he away he went. Having started quilling in February of 2022, he is still relatively new and still considers himself a student of quilling arts for he has yet to learn all the styles of quilling.
