Leah Weiss is an acclaimed southern writer living in Virginia. Her debut novel IF THE CREEK DON’T RISE was released in 2017 and selected as a Library Reads, Indie Next and SIBA Okra Pick. It was honored as a 2018 finalist for the Library of Virginia’s Literary Fiction and People’s Choice Awards and nominated for the Southern Book Prize. It has sold over 200,000 copies. Her second novel, ALL THE LITTLE HOPES was released in 2021 and was a Library Reads, BAM’s December 2021 book club choice, and named a Best Book for Fall 2021 by Country Living Magazine. It was a 2022 finalist for the Library of Virginia’s People’s Choice Award. Her third novel, THE CREEK, THE CRONE AND THE CROW will be released on March 24, 2026 and is a return to Appalachia and Baines Creek and is told by beloved characters from the first two books.
Renea Winchester is a daughter of Appalachia who began her writing career in Georgia where she penned several non-fiction works including, Farming, Friends & Fried Bologna Sandwiches (Mercer University Press) which was nominated for the prestigious SIBA award, earned Renea a Georgia Author of the Year, and received the endorsement from The Pulpwood Queens, the largest book club in the country. Renea is the recipient of the Wilma Dykeman Award, the Appalachian Writer’s Award, and the Lucy Bramlette Patterson Award for women who elevate the world.
Renea has served on the Atlanta Writers Board, Georgia Writers Association, and judges multiple literary awards. In April 2020, Firefly Southern Fiction released Outbound Train. Set in her hometown of Bryson City, North Carolina, in 1976, Outbound Train is a triumphant story of perseverance and hope despite the harshness of poverty. The novel released internationally titled, De l’autre côté des rails.
