Leah Knecht: Step 2: The Progression Solo Exhibition at ace/121 Gallery

Experience a thought-provoking new exhibition that explores Asian biracial identity and confronts the consequences of racism. Glendale Arts presents Step 2: The Progression, a solo exhibition by Pasadena-based artist Leah Knecht, on view July 11-August 8 at ace/121 Gallery in Glendale.

Through layered mixed-media sculptures and assemblages created primarily from reclaimed vintage windows and doors, Knecht explores themes of identity, belonging, exclusion, and resilience. Drawing from her experience as a Japanese American artist of biracial heritage, the exhibition reflects on racism, immigration, and the lasting impact of historical events while inviting viewers to consider how the past continues to shape the present.

Referencing the incarceration of Japanese Americans during World War II alongside today’s conversations surrounding immigration and belonging, Step 2: The Progression examines the consequences of anti-immigrant rhetoric and fear-based propaganda through richly layered works that evolve as visitors move through the gallery.
