Chicago Tribune food writer Leah Eskin will read from her new novel, Like Wafers in Honey, and will be joined in conversation by Hannah Agran. Described as "the historical sweep and emotional power of The Invisible Bridge by Julie Orringer and the resonant use of food and recipes of Like Water for Chocolate by Laura Esquivel" (barnesandnoble.com), Like Wafers in Honey is praised by Yotam Ottolenghi, author of Jerusalem: A Cookbook and Ottolenghi Comfort, as "a survival story and a cultural archive...It honors a nearly vanished world through narrative and recipes, showing how memory, food, and storytelling can resist erasure."Leah Eskin has written features for Saveur, Elle, Garden Design, Salon, and People magazine. Since 2004, her food column “Home on the Range” has run in the Chicago Tribune, and has been twice nominated for the Pulitzer Prize. In 2005 she was named best food columnist by the Association of Food Journalists. She lives in Baltimore, Maryland (hachettebookgroup.com).
An award-winning writer, Hannah Agran is executive editor at Midwest Living, where she oversees travel, food, home, garden and culture content across print and digital. Born in Wisconsin, raised in Kentucky and Ohio, and now living in Iowa, she's a proud lifelong Midwesterner. She has worked at Midwest Living since 2006 and written innumerable stories about the region's people, places and flavors (edited from midwestliving.com).
