We would like to invite you to our Final Charity event for 4 Paws for Ability. 100% of all proceeds will benefit Jacob McPherran’s service dog. He is a 9 year old boy who loves golf, fishing, school, and video games! One amazing part of him is that he is Autistic. He was diagnosed at age 3 by NeuroDevelopmental at Akron Children’s Hospital. Along with Autism Spectrum Disorder he was also diagnosed with speech delay, ADHD, ARFID, and anxiety. Starting at the age of 3, even before his official diagnosis, we have been pursuing therapies to help him succeed, progress, and gain the confidence to navigate being a kid! Jacob has made leaps and bounds and we could not be more proud of his kindness, love for animals, love for his family, and persistence. Along with all of his met milestones come challenges. Although he appears to be a neurotypical 9 year old boy he faces daily challenges such as crippling anxiety, fear, obsessive thoughts and meltdowns, as well as difficulty focusing especially doing homework or paying attention to his surroundings. Autism can sometimes feel like an invisible disability because many of its challenges cannot be seen. There are many things he excels at like playing sports, video games, and reading, but anxiety, worry, meltdowns, and changes in routine can be debilitating at times. A meltdown for him is a very intense emotion and feeling that can interrupt his day and cause him to not be able to function. It can come on at anytime if he is overstimulated, feeling anxious or unsure, or even feeling scared. That is where 4 Paws for Ability and their service dog program steps in. Having a service dog would be able to calm Jacob during a meltdown or severe anxiety with deep pressure therapy or helping to redirect his thoughts when they spiral out of control. Having a service dog would be life changing for him especially has he gets older and emotions and feelings become stronger and more intense. For every milestone met more challenges arise and we want to set Jacob up to live life as a happy and confident kid. Having a service dog as part of his life and ours would truly be amazing. A lot of times he prefers the company of animals and seems to connect with them or feel joy just being in their presence more than his peers. To say that Jacob is a dog lover is an understatement so to have a built in support system would be incredible. Thank you so much for your generosity and support and please consider donating towards this life changing gift!
