Leader-centered, evidence-aligned sessions designed to turn literacy initiatives into instructional change.
About this Event

This Massachusetts-based institute is designed for school and district leaders who are responsible for turning literacy initiatives, policies, and legislation into meaningful instructional change. During this professional learning experience, participants will explore what leaders need to know and do to move the needle on literacy outcomes in their settings.

The session connects the science of reading with the science of learning, grounding leadership decisions in how students actually acquire and retain literacy skills. Leaders will be introduced to the role of high-quality assessment systems, learn how to interpret and use literacy data effectively, and consider how data-driven decisions inform instruction, intervention, and resource allocation.

Throughout the institute, content is explicitly aligned to Massachusetts's literacy initiatives, policies, and legislative requirements. Participants will leave with greater clarity about their leadership role in implementation, practical guidance for supporting educators, and concrete next steps for strengthening evidence-aligned literacy practices across their schools or districts.

What to Expect

Engage in a focused, leader-centered professional learning experience that examines:

  • What leaders must understand about how students learn to read—and how that knowledge should shape instructional and system-level decisions
  • The role of assessment and data in guiding instruction, intervention, and resource allocation (and common missteps to avoid)
  • Leadership actions that support implementation, including coherence across materials, professional learning, and expectations for practice
  • Alignment with Massachusetts literacy priorities, policies, and legislative requirements

You will leave with clearer decision-making criteria, a stronger understanding of their role in implementation, and concrete next steps for strengthening evidence-aligned literacy across their schools or districts.
