Leaded Glass - July 18 & 19
Schedule
Sat Jul 18 2026 at 09:00 am to 04:30 pm
UTC-04:00Location
Pennsylvania Guild of Craftsmen | Lancaster, PA
Skill Level: Intermediate β Prior stained glass experience required.
This is a 2-day class, July 18 & 19 from 9 am-4:30 pm
PA Guild of Craftsman Master Artisan Dan Hayward will introduce participants to the techniques to create works in stained glass using the traditional lead-came method of assembly. This is the method of construction typically used in large installations like churches. There are several key differences in using lead came as opposed to the more common copper foil:
Each piece in the pattern is separated from the ones adjacent to it with lead came.
You assemble the panel one piece at a time from one bottom corner to the opposite corner at the top, anchoring the lead as you go.
You only solder the joints where lead adjoins lead once the entire panel is assembled.
You finish with a form of cement which is pushed under the edges of the lead came.
This class is best suited for the person who has experience creating panels with copper foil, who has an ongoing interest in stained glass as a hobby, and who wants to explore this very old method of creating works of stained glass art. Dan will offer several patterns and a wide array of glass from which to choose. (Those persons who have significant experience and self-confidence may create their own pattern subject to Danβs review prior to class). He will then guide and assist each person through the assembly process.
