The Edinburgh premiere of ‘Le Chéile’, the world’s first narrative short film in both Scots Gaelic (Gàidhlig) and Irish (Gaeilge).
About this Event

Explore the deep connection between Scotland and Ireland through their native languages. Join us for the Edinburgh premiere of ‘Le Chéile’, the world’s first narrative short film in both Scots Gaelic (Gàidhlig) and Irish (Gaeilge).

The film follows a Scottish Rangers supporter and an Irish Celtic supporter. They find unexpected common ground on a bus ride home through their shared linguistic heritage.

The screening of ‘Le Chéile’ will be bookended by a selection of other Gaelic and Irish short films. The event will conclude with a Q&A session with the film's writer and director, Róise Nic an Bheatha.

Please note: The event discussion will be primarily in English, with films shown in Gaelic and Irish with English subtitles.

About the filmmaker

Róise Nic an Bheatha is a writer and director working in Scots Gaelic and Irish. Her work focuses on heritage and language, bringing these minoritised languages to wider audiences. ‘Le Chéile’, her debut short film created by an all-female crew, has been selected for over 20 international festivals and has won several awards, including Best Gaelic Film and Best Director.
