The musicians in Layakari were born in four different countries, united by a shared love for Indian classical music. Rooted in traditional Hindustani vocals, their sound weaves together sitar, guitar, bass, and drums, creating a vibrant mosaic of melody, rhythm, and cross-cultural expression.Alejandra Arellano: Drums
Currently living in Los Angeles, CA.
After getting his Composition Degree from CIEM in Mexico, City, Alejandra moved to LA and graduates from the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA. She received a scholarship to study tabla in New Delhi, India at Gandharva Mahavidyalays, and has played and recorded with various artists including Rebel Rose, DRQLA, Layakari, Vitamin XP, Sustain Petals and The Hell Surfers among others.
Randy Hollinger : Sitar and Guitar:
Randy Hollinger is a sitarist and guitarist from Los Angeles. He is a senior disciple of Pt. Indrajit Banerjee of Antara School and is an exponent of the Maihar gharana. Awards include 1st place winner in the Sadhana North American Instrumental competition (Ragamal.org), 1st place instrumental winner Shishka competition 2020 and 2021 (USA) and was awarded first position in the Nataraj All Instrumental Competition (Kolkata, IND). Randy’s music has been featured in the Kala Darpan music festival (Austin, TX) and Ragamala Lights festival (Seattle).
Kamini Natarajan
Kamini comes from a family of musicians and started learning Indian classical music at the age of 6. She proceeded to graduate in vocal Hindustani music and now both teaches and performs traditional and world music. Her music is spiritual, mystical, and simply engaging. In it, she artistically incorporates the traditional Indian ragas and intricate rhythmic patterns known as “taala”, which lift listeners to a higher state of consciousness – a state of pure bliss, away from the mundane.
Sevan Kendir
Sevan Kendir is an Armenian-American Bassist, arranger, and composer from Pasadena. He studied piano with his mother at a young age, and then went on to self teach himself bass until attending Pasadena City college and UC Riverside focussed in jazz performance. Sevan is known for his expressive playing and performance of a wide range of styles of music. He considers himself an avid listener as well and has been told he blasts music way too loud in his car.
