Our Lavender Lit brunches offer a supportive and inclusive environment for creative minds, with a special focus on fostering and empowering minority voices, including queer and female writers.
Everyone is welcome to share their work, give and receive feedback, and connect with fellow writers over a delicious brunch and guided group writing activities. We'll engage in two short creative writing exercises: a 3-minute activity where each participant contributes a word to create a "word bundle" as a writing prompt, followed by a 12-minute session where we exchange writing prompts with each other. After each exercise, we'll share our writings.
We'll meet at Mystic Coffee, a place with open space, lake view, and well-spaced tables. It is perfect for letting our creative juices flow with the wind and waves of West Lake, for reading aloud, and for feeling safe with the freedom to leave the space whenever you wish.
We are a group of professionals from various fields united by a passion for writing. Our community is dedicated to supporting each other's creative pursuits and fostering collective growth as writers. We celebrate all voices, especially those that are marginalized. Recognizing that some spoken word and writing communities can be dominated by male voices—leaving minority voices gradually silenced—this event creates a space where everyone can feel heard and valued.
We encourage participants to share thought-provoking ideas about life, politics, gender issues, social welfare, community engagement, and any topics they'd like to discuss within a safe and supportive environment. So grab your notebook, bring your ideas, and let’s inspire each other to write our hearts out!
