From the southern to west coasts, Lauren Murphy is not only a beloved talent, but she has become somewhat of a folk hero. Her storied career boasts stages & marques shared with the most notable of classic rockers(David LaFlamme, Sam Andrew, Melvin Seals, Bob Weir +), Contemporary chart-topping songsmiths Will Kimbrough, Lisa Lobe, & Joan Osborne, and staples of New Orleans Ivan Neville, Papa Mali, Dave Jordan, & Grayson Capps. Writing through both the death of her singing partner/husband(Jerry Garcia/Robert Hunter produced Judge Murphy), and 8 years later, the loss of her co-writer/drummer, she is a staunch survivor whose tenacity can be heard in her music.
Her band, 'The Psychedelics', has garnered both local and national acclaim during its 9 year run, including being on heavy rotation performing at the world-famous Florabama .
As far back as 1997, Relix Magazine reviewed her as "Lady Willpower."
A versatile performer, Murphy specializes in power vocals and haunting melodies, and is an accomplished guitarist in her own right.
Americana Highways describes Murphy’s voice as ‘warm, unique jazz-tinged, with excellent intonation and phrasing’ that is like a ‘fine french brandy’.
Compared to Grace Slick & Janis Joplin, Murphy is a force all her own.
Lauren currently resides in a 125 year old shotgun house in Madisonville, and has been burning up the road in 2025-26 along the Gulf Coast.
With 5 Albums to her discography, Lauren's music can be heard playing on worldwide radio stations as well as on Grateful Dead syndicates. She is also a featured songwriter with South Louisiana's Ozone Music Foundation & a repeat featured performer at the legendary "Frog Pond Sunday Social," a Folk Alliance House Concert.
A new single with Grammy Winning Cajun artist, Louis Michot of 'The Lost Bayou Ramblers' was released last fall which Lagniappe Magazine call "edgy modern folk mixed with swampy psychedelia".
