“Clean guitars and drawling, half-drugged vocals explode with big muff aplomb … ‘A Man About Town’ is Bleach-era Nirvana on a Magical Mystery Tour, while ‘Daddy’s Honey’ is the sound of Mudhoney inhaling the Nuggets compilation and spewing it back up, just for your pleasure.” - Loud and Quiet
“I bet they have an 8-track of The Stooges in their car. That’s great [Madame Hit the Wire]” - Mickey Bradley of The Undertones for BBC
“It is such a good groove, and yet it rocks [A Man About Town]” - John Kennedy for Radio X
Laurel Canyon is Nick Gillespie (lead guitar, vocals), Serg Cereja (rhythm guitar, vocals), Dylan Loccarini (bass guitar) and Lachlan Driver (drums) – a feedback-laden, amphetamine-fueled garage punk band from Allentown, Pennsylvania that recently caught the attention of Iggy Pop. Iggy played “Tangiers” (recorded by Steve Albini) from their self-titled debut album released via Agitated Records on his BBC 6 Radio show in the summer of 2023, following sold-out performances at the Whisky a Go Go in Los Angeles throughout 2022. The band’s debut record Laurel Canyon received impressive reviews in Mojo, Uncut, and Clash, reaching #36 on the UK's Official Record Store Chart and three of the album’s singles received placements in official Spotify and Apple playlists.
Following the first LP is their 3-track EP ‘East Side’ produced by Gordon Raphael (The Strokes). The new songs - 'East Side', 'Garden of Eden', and 'Untitled' - expand on their sound with sharper focus and tenacity, skewing their garage punk template with left-field aspects such as cello and vocal harmonies. The cover art shows a stark found object style photograph of Laurel Canyon-branded naloxone spray - which is used to reverse or reduce the effects of opioids - representing the music within as a shot-to-the-heart of rock 'n' roll.
Mojo wrote of their first album: "Grungy thrills and sick pop hooks abound on this pedal-stomping, amps-to-11 debut" and the group is sounding even better since - the new songs sound like the roof might blow right off of the room they're being played in. Since the release of their album, Laurel Canyon have been honing this new material live (some of which is still to be recorded for their sophomore LP), playing upwards of 40 shows a year in the US to growing audiences, gaining more and more followers in the New York City club circuit and opening for legendary acts such as Lydia Lunch, The Strawberry Alarm Clock and Agent Orange. The result is a band performing with both militant precision and reckless abandon, able to bring their well-oiled live show right into the studio and ready for your ears. Laurel Canyon is currently working on their sophomore studio album and set to embark on their first European tour in November 2024.
