Taking the reparation and servicing of a 1970s tape recorder as its point of departure, Noise floor links the development of recording technologies to questions of sonic presence. Using the repair manual as a framework, the work weaves together appropriated advertising blurbs and HFE's own writing; technical photography with photographic abstraction. Combining these different voices, the publication examines notions of a sonic-self, a subject shaped by the recording industry’s race for higher sensitivity and lower noise.
Henrik Follesø Egeland (b .1994) is an Oslo-based visual artist and photographer. He is a graduate from the Oslo National Academy of Arts (MFA / 2020-22) as well as the University of Roehampton (BFA / 2014-17). Through an exploration of photography, text and sound, his work investigates how we know where we are — grounded in cultural imaginations of time and place.
