About this Event
Black and African communities are navigating a time of profound challenges—and transformative possibilities. As global political and social landscapes shift, how do we continue to move the needle on equity, justice, and collective well-being?
Join us for the official launch of the Institute for Black and African Diaspora Research and Engagement (IBADRE)at Simon Fraser University—a gathering of visionaries, changemakers, and community allies dedicated to global Black solidarity and liberation.
Dr. Malinda Smith, Vice Provost Equity Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) and Professor at the University of Calgary, will deliver a keynote address, Justice in Our Time: Challenges to EDI and Anti-Black Racism Initiatives, and explore the growing pushback against equity and inclusion, and its implications for academic freedom and the broader fight for justice.
Dr. June Francis and Dr. James Busumtwi-Sam, Co-Directors of IBADRE, will lead a powerful dialogue on the global movement for reparations, truth, and accountability. Their conversation, Justice in Our Time: International Reparative Justice for Black and African Peoples in the 21st Century will consider: what’s being done—and what must still be done—to right historical wrongs?
Experience live performances from local Black artists and join us for a vibrant networking reception where you can connect with scholars, activists, and community leaders shaping the future.
Come for the conversation. Stay for the community.
All are welcome. Refreshments will be served.
