We invite you to join in the third of our series of innovation and technology focussed evenings and presentations taking place at in partnership with The Careers and Enterprise Hub in Loughborough.

This third event, taking place on Wednesday 20th November, will be focussed on Data Science and AI.

Dr Mike Pound - "Repurposing AI in Science":
The current hype around “AI” is difficult to ignore. It’s certainly the case that deep learning has produced some transformative results, but there has also been a fixation on standard problems such as human face recognition, chat bots and generating AI images.

The assumption has been that the technologies developed here will simply trickle down and help science to, but it isn’t always obvious how. In this talk Mike will cover some of the key concepts in modern AI, and how we can repurpose them into useful tools for science.

Mike will talk about how they’re using deep learning and generative AI approaches for optical correction in microscope images, potentially unlocking new approaches to harmless imaging through skin.

With industry experience with software design, building monitoring systems and all kinds of IoT services, Pete is also passionate in sharing his expertise through hosting professional events, podcasts and Twitch streams.

Expert in securing R&D funding through innovation grants and tax Incentives, Sam directs TBAT Innovation Limited, an independent Consultancy helping companies for over 20 years through the cradle-to-grave of new product and process innovation. Assisting organisations in accessing grant funding and tax incentives to drive innovation, Sam is the person to talk to for all engineering and tech companies interested in starting or expanding their R&D capabilities.

John is the Director of Lacerta Technology Limited which is renowned throughout thermal technology businesses. John supports companies with specialist expertise in characterising a wide range of materials: polymers, rubbers, food, pharmaceuticals, composites, and adhesives. Director of Loughborough Surface Analysis Ltd, Mike directs an established and well-known laboratory in Loughborough providing contract analysis and solutions using advanced analytical techniques capable of probing down to the nanoscale.
