Late Shift is a play in two acts that takes place during the end of the millennium, just when the “Y2K” panic was consuming so many people’s attention. The main characters are two siblings in their early twenties and their mother, who has recently been widowed. The siblings are working odd jobs to help support the family, and it is at one of these jobs as a telemarketer that one of them meets Russell, a semi-retired army veteran, who ends up spending New Year’s Eve with the family as they all wait to see what’s going to happen when the clock strikes midnight.
