Floating Lotus Tea is a twenty-seat tea lounge tucked behind Hao's Grocery & Café on the Near Southside — open when the rest of the city is closing. Red clay walls, green things growing, a record spinning, and one pot at a time.
Her story, short version: Choke — it stands for Creating Her Own Kinetic Energy — is a Fort Worth artist who spent fifteen years on tea farms across China, Vietnam, Thailand, Laos, Taiwan, and Myanmar. Not visiting. Picking, drying, sitting on the floor with the families who grow it. She crossed Vietnam on a motorcycle with a backpack chasing the best leaf she could find, came home a certified tea sommelier, and built this room with her own hands — the reclaimed-wood tables, the paintings on the walls, the pillows she taught herself to sew overnight.
What a night looks like: $5 gets you a leaf and a pot — pour until it stops giving. There's a DJ every night, low and warm. A card on your table with a question you'd never ask a stranger, until tonight. Thursdays, Chef Luu Lac cooks Vietnamese vegan up front. Some nights it's a guided tea meditation, a tasting class, or a movie on the wall.
The rules are simple: come thirsty, come curious, come as you are. No reservations — twenty seats, first come. Bring an open mind; the tea does the rest.
