About this Event
Join us for a screening of Last Flight Home (2022), an intimate family portrait of life, death, and love. The film will be introduced by award-winning Directo,r Ondi Timoner, and the Timoner Family, who compose the cast of this documentary, with a Q&A session to follow the screening.
Behind a white picket fence, on an unremarkable suburban street, Eli Timoner is about to die. Just as he lived, he will do so surrounded by his loved ones, on his own terms. Lucky enough to live in one of the few states that allows medical aid in dying, the Timoner family embarks on a mission to help their beloved patriarch exit the world with the same grace and dignity with which he lived. Through stunning verité footage recorded by his middle child, LAST FLIGHT HOME takes audiences on a moving journey through Timoner’s life during his final days, illustrating a modern day success story built on the power of human connection. As the family opens up to provide an enlightening view of a universal experience, this intensely intimate film also offers a lasting legacy of one man’s life and his commitment to both living – and dying – with agency and grace.
This film is unrated.
As part of our immersive film series, this screening is designed to promote a deeper cultural reflection of cinema. - Nicole Sperling, NEW YORK TIMES - "If you get the chance to see one Sundance film today, might I encourage you to watch @onditimoner's documentary "Last Flight Home," one of the bravest, most moving pieces of filmmaking I've ever seen. It will stay with you for days, as it should. "
- Rahul Desai, FILM COMPANION - “I would gladly make Ondi Timoner's LAST FLIGHT HOME the final film of my life. The @sundancefest doc broke and built me simultaneously.”
- Elizabeth Weitzman, THE WRAP - "Profound in its simplicity, wrenching in its honesty, and beautiful in its humanity, Last Flight Home is the blessing Eli Timoner earned."
- Melanie Addington, HAMMERTONAIL - "What an incredibly special film that we only see a few times in life..."
- Christopher Campbell, NONFICS - "Last Flight Home moves us by involving us...by the end of the film, we are moved to tears as if we’ve alsovjust embraced and lost a loved one we’ve known for much longer than the 100-minute runtime. More than mournful emotion, though, Last Flight Home leaves us with a shared catharsis..."
- David Ehrlich, INDIEWIRE - “One of the most enlightening, devastating, and beautiful meditations on mortality in the history of cinema.”
