88th Landmark Birthday - playing the 88 Steinway Keys
This December marks my 88th birthday, and to celebrate I’ll be performing with my Blockbuster All-Stars on Yoshi’s 88-key Steinway, swinging in the New Year early with a touch of Afro-Cuban flair! The two-tenor frontline, featuring Craig Handy and Steve Heckman, will perform the music of Dexter Gordon, Sonny Rollins, and John Coltrane.
Special guest, the soulful vocalist Nicolas Bearde, will join us, along with Puerto Rican percussionist/vocalist Hector Lugo, who will bring Afro-Cuban rhythms to life. The rhythm section will be rounded out by bassist Buca Necak and drummer Jeff Minnieweather, alongside myself on piano.
