Laps 4 Landon is held every April to raise awareness regarding Cystic Fibrosis and those in our community who battle the disease daily. It is named after 18-year-old Council Grove (formerly Emporia!) resident Landon Dody, who was diagnosed when he was just a few months old. Landon’s parents, Blythe & Aron, are both alums of ESU, and his mom works at ESU as the Director of the Center for Student Involvement. The event is planned and carried out by the ESU Health & Human Performance majors as a capstone project for one of their courses. Participants are encouraged to walk laps (& listen to fantastic music!), place bids at our silent auction, and purchase tickets at our prize tables. There will be a bouncy house for kiddos & a Plinko board that is popular with all ages! Many ESU athletes from various sports attend the event to play with older kids, and ESU’s amazing Cheer Team does face painting. The Lazy Butt BBQ Crew will once again be serving a delicious dinner that evening for a donation of any amount (collected by our amazing ESU Greek community!) – they will be set up at the north end of the ESU Rec Center parking lot on the north end of campus. The Lazy Butt crew participates (and generously donates all of the proceeds they raise!) in honor of 9-year-old Emporia resident, Aiden Drier, who was diagnosed at birth with CF. We are also hoping to have Freedom Freeze back again this year because their sno cones were a HUGE hit last year! The silent auction items will be set up inside the ESU Recreation Center, but all bids will be placed online via a Facebook (page provided later!) We truly hope that, much like the past few of years, this “hybrid” style of event allows for as many people to participate as possible. On behalf of the ESU Health & Human Performance students (past & present) & all those battling CF, thank you for your support “through it all”, and we hope to see you at this year’s event. All of the proceeds raised at our event go to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to support ongoing research efforts. We have Continued Faith that we will make CF stand for Cure Found & we hope to see you all on Tuesday, April 22nd from 6-8pm!
