Language of Food | Almost Summer Edition | Theme: The Color of Green

The ‘Language of Food Editions’ are inspirational sessions where storytelling and aestheticsshare equal space at the table. Dedicated to color palette explorations, each session is organized around a transitional moment in the seasons.

Setting the scene

Since food is never just food, I utilize ideas from art, botany, history and fashion, to explore edible ingredients as a creative material. I share ideas on how focusing on a specific color inspires not only dramatically different plates, but also leads to unexpected cooking patterns inthe kitchen. Together we question why we eat what we eat and how cultural perspectives influence it.

How

After a shared lunch designed especially to inspire, we explore how color symbolizes nostalgia for foods and seasons that are often more sentimental than realistic. We investigate how to capture fleeting flavors in a ‘kitchen perfume pantry’, and answer the question how to cook with simple ingredients layered by an abundance of complex flavors designed throughout the year.

Why

We investigate how food design is relevant in day-to-day cooking processes. Inspired by the aromas of the season, we explore ingredient choices to question our rituals and food systems. Think fava beans to garlic chives and more . . .

Almost Summer | and the Green Aesthetic

If the beginning summer were a color palette, it would be the shade of green -- from pale fava beans, to green peas in their pods and a myriad of soft, leafy aromatic herbs. The spectrum of summer flows from pale to bright -- the question is how to appreciate its beauty?
