What to Expect
The workshop will be 3 hours and involve walking around scenic Washington Park with your instructor, Meredith Fontana, and other students. Expect to be standing/walking for the majority of the time, with opportunities for breaks.
The workshop will be highly interactive, with a focus on hands-on learning and personalized feedback throughout the session.
From the start, you will be encouraged to apply what you are learning by actively using their cameras in real-world scenarios. The workshop is designed to provide immediate opportunities to practice new skills in the field, while your instructor offers guidance, feedback, and troubleshooting tips.
During the first half of the workshop, we will work on learning technical skills and camera settings related to exposure and focus. Your instructor will demonstrate each concept using the park’s natural environment as an example. Participants will then try these techniques on their own, and your instructor will circulate among the group, observing their shots and providing constructive feedback. This will allow for real-time adjustments, helping each participant understand how different settings and techniques affect their photos.
The second half of the workshop will involve a short overview and discussion about essential composition techniques. Then we will go on a short nature walk through the park, which will serve as a composition practice session. You will receive small assignments to practice specific composition techniques at various locations. Your instructor will review your images after each assignment, offer suggestions for improvement, and point out what works well. This will give you the chance to refine your skills with 1 on 1 expert guidance tailored to your individual needs.
