Lands End Loop
About this Event
We'll explore Sutro Heights, Sutro Baths, and Point Lobos, then head up the Coastal Trail to Eagle’s Point for fabulous views of the Golden Gate!
Our route includes memorials to the Holocaust and the USS San Francisco, the Art Deco VA Hospital, Fort Miley's abandoned coastal defenses, and the octagon house built as a lookout for ships approaching the Golden Gate.
TOTAL DISTANCE
This is a moderate 5-mile round-trip hike. Parts of the trail include steps and steep slopes.
LEADER
Gail MacGowan.
COST
Free; Reservations required.
WHERE TO MEET
We'll assemble at the Lands End Visitor Center.
(If taking Muni to Lands End, it is accessible via the 38 or 38R, which starts at the new Transit Center and runs all the way out to Geary to 48th Avenue. However, be sure to get on a 38 that goes all the way to 48th Avenue; some only go as far as the V.A. Hospital at 33rd Avenue and turn around there. Riders need to look at the destination on the front of the bus or ask the driver if they go all the way to 48th.)
NOTES
Bring water, snacks, and lunch. Dress in layers and wear good hiking shoes. Bring poles if you normally use them. There are restrooms near our meeting area. Questions? Contact Ken Lavin at [email protected].
