On May 22, join the Education for Liberation Collective for a screening of the gripping feature film "Land and Freedom." This event is taking place within the context of the exhibition Art is a Weapon: Revolutionary and Antifascist Posters from Spain 1936-39, on at Gongfu Bao Restaurant, 365 Bank Street, until June 20.

About the Film

"Land and Freedom" (1995) tells the fictional story of David Carr, a worker and member of the Communist Party of Great Britain who decides to fight fascism in the Spanish Civil War. The film's story closely recalls George Orwell's (1938), his memoir of his time in the International Brigades.

This screening is part of a series of events surrounding the exhibition Art is a Weapon: Revolutionary and Antifascist Posters from Spain 1936–39 organized by the Education for Liberation Collective at Gongfu Bao Restaurant (365 Bank Street). It features reproductions of 25 breathtaking archival posters from 1930s Spain as well as reproductions of artefacts from Canada's antifascist Mackenzie-Papineau Battalion.
