Lancaster County 4-H Bird Club Field Days 2026

Join us for a series of 4-H Bird Club Field Days where youth and families will explore some of the best birding locations in our area! These hands-on outings are designed to help participants build bird identification skills, observe birds in their natural habitats, and connect with others who enjoy the outdoors.

We’ll kick things off with three exciting field days. There will be at least 7 opportunities this year and we ask that youth attend at least three:
• April 13 – Nature as Teacher (Camden, SC)
• April 27 – Landsford Canal State Park (Chester County)
• May 9 – Global Big Day at Andrew Jackson State Park (Lancaster County)

Additional field days will be added throughout the season.

What to Expect:
Participants can expect light walking on trails, guided bird observation, and opportunities to learn about bird behavior, habitats, and conservation. All experience levels are welcome—from beginners to more advanced birders.

What to Bring & Wear:
• Closed-toe shoes are required (no sandals or flip-flops)
• Dress appropriately for the weather (layers, rain gear if needed)
• Water bottle and any personal snacks
• Binoculars (if you have them—some may be available to share)
• Sunscreen, hat, and insect repellent recommended
Also bring a parent or guardian with you as this is a non-custodial care event.

Expectations:
We ask all participants to come prepared to be respectful—to nature, to wildlife, and to one another. This includes staying on designated trails when required, minimizing noise during bird observation, and helping create a positive and inclusive environment for all.

Refund statement: There is no cost to the club for these events, however, many state parks do require a nominal fee to get in. In those cases it is the responsibility of the participant to cover that fee.

Membership requirement: Current 4-H membership in is required for participation in this club.

Custodial Care: Please note that this event and its coordinators do not assume custodial care of youth in attendance. Adults (parents, guardians, volunteers, coaches, teachers, or other chaperones) must be present for the supervision of youth participants.
