Lakewood Announces 2024 “Music in the Chapel” Concert Series Lineup
Visitors can experience an array of intimate performances in the historic Lakewood Memorial Chapel
Lakewood Cemetery is excited to announce the 2024 season lineup of its popular Music in the Chapel concert series. The series kicks off on Sunday April 7 with master guzheng (Chinese zither) artist Jarrelle Barton promising an unforgettable afternoon that sets the tone for a year of musical exploration in one of the most breathtaking and intimate spaces in the city the Lakewood Memorial Chapel.
Concerts run monthly on Sunday afternoons from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and feature a variety of local musicians including:
- April 7 - Jarrelle Barton ($10 advance / $15 door)
- May 5 - Mila Vocal Ensemble ($15 advance / $20 door)
- June 2 - J.E. Sunde ($25 advance / $35 door)
- July 14 - Too Old Cat ($15 advance / $20 door)
- August 11 - Red Thread ($15 advance / $20 door)
- September 8 - 10th Wave ($20 advance / $30 door)
- October 6 - Amanda Grace + Friends ($20 advance / $30 door)
- November 10 - Twin Cities Hardingfelag ($15 advance / $20 door)
- December 1 - The OK Factor Holiday Concert ($20 advance / $30 door)
The series created in 2018 is one of many ways that Lakewood is reimagining the role of a cemetery in modern life. Designed to welcome the community to experience Lakewood in a new way it features an eclectic range of local musicians and shines a spotlight on Lakewood’s stunning historic chapel. The Lakewood Memorial Chapel listed on the National Register of Historic Places was built in 1910 and designed by renowned architect Harry Wild Jones. It offers an intimate setting for up to 150 guests along with an awe-inspiring interior of more than ten million mosaic tiles. These tiles called tesserae were crafted by European artisans who came to Lakewood directly from completing a project in the Vatican.
