Celebrate artistry on land and water during the Lakeside Wooden Boat Show & Plein Air Art Festival, one of Lakeside’s signature summer weekends, July 17-19. This family-friendly event showcases the timeless craftsmanship of wooden boatbuilding alongside the creativity of artists painting outdoors throughout the community.The weekend culminates on Sunday, when Lakeside’s waterfront becomes an open-air showcase for the 23rd Annual Lakeside Wooden Boat Show. One of Lake Erie’s largest wooden boat exhibits, the show features more than 60 classic cruisers displayed along the dock and lawn of Hotel Lakeside, offering an up-close look at these beautifully preserved vessels
Meet boat owners and restoration experts, hear the stories behind each boat, and discover the skill and dedication required to keep these timeless works of craftsmanship afloat.
Amphicars
Amphicars add an extra splash of excitement on Sunday with a special "swim meet." These rare vehicles are designed to travel seamlessly between land and water. Conditions permitting, the Amphicars will enter the lake from the Lakeside Sailing Center ramp around noon for an on water demonstration.
Plein Air Painting
In addition to wooden boat activities, several plein air events will take place on Sunday. Watch artists add finishing touches to their work during the Plein Air Paintout, held along the shoreline and in Bettinger Park until noon.
Wet Paint Sale
Paintings created throughout the weekend will be available for purchase during the Wet Paint Sale on Sunday from 1:30-3:30 p.m., south of the Pavilion. Purchases may be made with cash, check or card. Please note: The Gaga Ball pit and the west basketball court will be closed 1:30-3:30 p.m. to protect the art displays.
Kids’ Easel Art Painting
Children of all ages are invited to take part in Kids’ Easel Art Painting, available by donation from 1:30-3:30 p.m., south of the Pavilion.
Lunch
Enjoy lunch at one of Lakeside’s many restaurants or grab a meal on the Hotel Lakeside Lawn from noon-4 p.m., while supplies last. Menu options include hamburgers, hot dogs, brats with sauerkraut, pulled pork sandwiches and Italian sausage, with sides of corn on the cob, pasta salad, pineapple coleslaw, baked beans or fruit. Water, pop and tea will also available.
