Laguna Stewards at Laguna de Santa Rosa Trail/ Día de Stewards

As summer is winding down, fledgling birds have left their nest. It’s time for us Laguna Stewards to come out and tend the land again. Our first workday of the season will be part of Latino Conservation Week.

Latino Conservation Week: Disfrutando y Conservando Nuestra Tierra is an initiative of the Hispanic Access Foundation. Latino Conservation Week was created to support the Latino community getting into the outdoors and participating in activities to protect our natural resources.

We will be meeting at the Highway 12 entrance of the Laguna de Santa Rosa Trail and walk a short distance to Meadowlark Field, home to our first restoration site! Birdboxes were placed throughout the field to create nesting habitat. Over the years these birdboxes wear down and many need to be replaced. Help us tend to this place by installing new homes for the birds. After we are done, we will go for a short bird walk around the preserve. We suggest wearing long pants, closed-toe shoes, and sun protection. We suggest you bring a water bottle, snacks, and binoculars for the bird walk; we’ll bring the tools, gloves, extra drinking water, coffee and snacks. Only heavy rain cancels.

PLEASE NOTE: All ages are welcome! No experience is necessary; tools and training are provided. The bird walk will be about a mile long on relatively flat terrain, some parts of the trail are shaded but mostly in the sun. We will be stopping throughout the loop trail to look at birds. Benches are located throughout the trail system.
