This is an exclusive opportunity to visit our new seasonal trail and viewing screen on a part of the reserve that is usually accessible only to wildlife, before this seasonal trail opens to visitors.
Over the winter, a beautiful new viewing screen was built. It is a real feature, and its organic appearance allows it to blend seamlessly into the stunning lagoon landscape.
The walk will take up to 2.5 hours and begins on the edge of an area of ancient woodland, opening out onto a breathtaking stretch of restored lowland heathland—a rare and precious habitat. Here, you may catch a glimpse of the elusive Dartford warbler or spot a kestrel or Osprey soaring overhead. From the heathland, there are expansive views across the landscape towards Poole Harbour, and the Wareham channel offering a wonderful sense of the scale and beauty of the reserve.
As the walk approaches the viewing screen and lagoon, your guides will ask the group to move quietly to avoid disturbing wildlife. There will be a short pause here to take in the surroundings and enjoy the spectacle, perhaps catching sight of a flash of blue from a kingfisher or even a white-tailed eagle soaring above. This sheltered, private saline lagoon attracts a variety of bird species coming into feed.
Binoculars are available to hire from our shop before the walk.
Please note: This is a longer guided walk, lasting up to 2.5 hours. The route includes a few gentle hills and slopes, so a moderate level of fitness is recommended.
