We are thrilled to announce an upcoming FREE Lafayette event in Butler, Pennsylvania, to be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 11 am ET. This event will result in the addition of our 13th Lafayette Trail marker in the Keystone State.
On June 1, 1825, General Lafayette was welcomed in Butler by a large procession of residents. He was escorted to Mechling's Inn, where he was greeted by the Butler Committee of arrangements and dined. Following the meal, the Frenchman greeted the people of Butler, including Revolutionary War veterans. Arches were erected in the main street in his honor.
The dedication ceremony for this new marker will take place as part of a Lafayette250 function honoring Lafayette's contributions to American freedom as the United States marks the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
The Lafayette250 event will start promptly at 11 am ET on Wednesday, May 20, 2026. If you wish to participate in this historic celebration, please join us on the front lawn of the Butler County Courthouse (124 W Diamond St, Butler, PA 16001). The ceremony is expected to last up to 45 minutes and include remarks from all stakeholders involved in the preparation of this marker, the formal unveiling of the new sign, and photo opportunities for attendees.
We would like to express our appreciation to the Board of Commissioners of Butler County, PA, for its support of this Lafayette commemoration in Butler. Thank you also to Commissioner Kevin Boozel and Lori Shah, administrative assistant to Commissioner Boozel.
This new marker was donated to Butler County, Pennsylvania, by The Lafayette Trail, Inc., with funding from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation. Once again, this patriotic function is FREE OF CHARGE and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. We hope you will be able to attend! To find out more about this event, please visit lafayette250.org/events or send us an email at the following email address: [email protected].
We look forward to seeing you in Butler, PA, on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 11 am ET!
