After the film join us for THE GOBLIN KING'S MAGIC DANCE PARTY w/ DJ Matt Krefting!LABYRINTH (1986, 101 mins, all-ages but recommended for ages 8+). Jim Henson’s imagination and mastery of his craft are on full display in this iconic 1980s film. Frustrated with babysitting on yet another weekend night, Sarah (Jennifer Connelly), a teenager with an active imagination, summons the Goblins to take her baby stepbrother away. When little Toby actually disappears, Sarah must follow him into a fantastical world to rescue him from the Goblin King (David Bowie). Guarding his castle is the labyrinth itself, a twisted maze of deception, populated with outrageous characters and unknown dangers. To get through it in time to save Toby, Sarah befriends the Goblins, in hopes that their loyalty isn’t just another illusion in a place where nothing is as it seems. Rich with elaborate set pieces, including a castle inspired by M.C. Escher, and a witty and fantastical script by Monty Python member Terry Jones, this beloved fantasy film is a stunning visual achievement. In a role that launched a million disquieting crushes, a perfectly cast David Bowie plays the teasing, tempting seducer whom Sarah must both want and reject in order to learn the labyrinth’s lessons.

DJ Matt Krefting is a writer and musician based in Holyoke, Massachusetts. His writing has appeared in The Wire, The Huffington Post, Bull Tongue Review, and elsewhere. A member of Son of Earth, The Believers, Idea Fire Company, and Sunburned Hand of the Man, he also creates his own solo music for cassettes. His music has been published by Open Mouth, Kye, and Ultra Eczema, among others. And he's got enough Bowie records to fill Jareth's castle.
