This Labour Day, the Museum at Campbell River invites you to travel back in time to the 1920s and explore what work and life looked like in our region a century ago.Watch the restored 1916 Empire Steam Donkey come to life and experience the sights, sounds, and smells of the early logging industry. Sip on a modern version of donkey boiler coffee, enjoy a slice of pie, and test your knowledge of 1920s everyday items in our "Then & Now" challenge.
Families can enjoy kids' crafts and games, screenings of vintage logging films, and access to the Museum’s exhibit of Henry Twidle’s photography, capturing the working world and natural beauty of the North Island between 1911 and 1949. You’ll also have the chance to learn about the Museum’s current research into the lives of Japanese Canadians in northern Vancouver Island.
Bring your lunch and settle into our native plant garden while soaking in the nostalgic sounds of a century past.
This is a great opportunity to reflect on the contributions of workers throughout our history — and to enjoy a fun, hands-on day at the Museum.
Free admission. All ages welcome.
