Sunrise, Sunset – Music Through the Day invites audiences on a musical journey that traces the rhythm of a day, honoring work, reflection, and the passage of time that shapes our lives. Presented in the spirit of Labor Day, this concert celebrates both the dignity of work and the beauty found in moments of pause from morning to night.The program opens with the promise of a new day, from the optimism of Grieg’s Morning to the energy and determination of Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5. As the sun rises higher, dramatic and evocative works such as Tiomkin’s High Noon suite and Dvořák’s The Noon Day Witch capture the intensity and urgency of midday. Debussy’s Prelude to the Afternoon of a Faun offers a dreamy, reflective interlude, while selections from Fiddler on the Roof explore tradition, labor, and family at the heart of daily life.
Following intermission, the program turns inward with lyrical and reflective works, closing with the gentle glow of evening in In the Gloaming—a fitting musical sunset to a day well lived.
