The United States' over-reliance on China and India for most of our active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) poses a significant threat to quality and availability of essential medications in the U.S as well as creating a national security risk.

83% of the top 100 generic medicines prescribed in the U.S.have no U.S.-based source of API. Over 90% of the most frequently prescribed antivirals and antibiotics have no U.S. API manufacturing source.

AIChE-Boston has assembled a team of experts from the pharmaceutical industry who will be discussing the challenges and mitigating strategies for bringing active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) manufacturing back home to the USA. Following an over view presentation regarding API Manufacturing worldwide, the panel will then do a deep dive into the current technological trends.
Technological Focus
The focus of this meeting will be on the use of continuous drug substance manufacturing and cutting edge technological production methodologies to mitigate the cost advantage that other countries like China and India currently hold.

Case Studies
Several API related case studies demonstrating Advanced Manufacturing methods will be presented and then the panel AND meeting attendees will engage in a lively discussion / Question & Answer session.
