About this Event

LOS ANGELES YOUTH BRAID CAMP

African American Youth, Families & Community
Learn a Skill. Build Confidence. Celebrate Culture. Create Community.

Join Blackidstivities and Crown Me for an exciting weekend designed specifically for African American youth and families to connect, learn, and grow together.

More than a braid camp, this is a cultural bonding experience where participants will learn practical hair braiding skills, explore entrepreneurship, build confidence, celebrate Black culture, and create lasting friendships within the community.

As Los Angeles continues to experience a decline in its Black population, opportunities for Black children and families to gather, build relationships, and strengthen cultural connections have become increasingly important. Youth Braid Camp creates a space where families can learn together, support one another, and take pride in traditions that have been passed down through generations.

Why Learn to Braid?

A single professional braid appointment can cost anywhere from $150–$400 or more.

By learning these skills, families can save hundreds—if not thousands—of dollars over time while gaining the confidence to care for their own hair and the hair of loved ones.

For those interested in entrepreneurship, braiding can also become a source of supplemental income or even a future career. Many professional braiders earn $50,000–$100,000+ annually through their craft and businesses.
