About this Event
Frogtown, Echo Park, and Silver Lake are some of LA's most interesting neighborhoods. This walking tour will take you through parts of each while discussing the history of the LA River, the , and more!
Once the group is ready to go, we will start with a talk about the LA River. That's right, LA has a river - and it even has water! This undervalued waterway is starting to receive a lot of attention from locals and visitors. You'll walk away knowing so much more about the past, present, and future of the LA River.
From Frogtown, the tour will head to Silver Lake. Famous for hipsters, restaurants, and painted stairways. Silver Lake is one of LA's most beautiful neighborhoods and you will take a stroll through a section that many never see.
After a short walk through Silver Lake, you will continue to Echo Park. This hilly section of LA has some of our steepest streets and most secluded stairs. We will take breaks on the stairs to discuss the film history of Edendale and watch clips of films that were made there in the early 1900s. Secret stairs lead to hidden paths that transport you back to a time when LA was still dirt, farms, and spiritualists (it wasn't that long ago)!
Finally, the walk will return to Frogtown for a relaxing stroll by the LA River. Shops and cafes are beginning to dot the river path and you'll see that this area is a popular spot for bike ride or cup of coffee. But how did the LA River end up covered in concrete and what will be done about it? These are topics we will cover in depth during our walk.
You won't find this tour in a book or being led by another guide. It is a unique route with history and information sourced from locals and archives. You'll leave the tour having explored an LA that few know still exists today. Hope to see you on the tour!
