Navigating the challenges of our industry can sometimes feel isolating, but members should not have to navigate those challenges alone.
The LA Local Member Town Halls are a new recurring resource created to provide members with a dedicated space to speak and have their voices heard. These Town Halls are designed as listening sessions: a forum for members to share concerns, questions, ideas, and priorities with Local Board members, who will be present to listen and help ensure that the themes raised are brought back to the LA Local Board.
These sessions are not membership meetings, informational presentations, or spaces for formal motions or debate. They are intended to be a direct channel for members to be heard, and a tool for advocacy, organizing, and stronger connection.
Member leaders and Local Staff will be present to listen, gather themes for follow-up, and help direct members to the appropriate staff or union resources when individual or case-specific issues require more dedicated assistance.
Guidelines - To make our time together as impactful as possible and to ensure everyone has a chance to be heard, we will follow a few simple guidelines:
- Each speaker will have two minutes to share their thoughts, concerns, or ideas.
- These Town Halls are intended to support open and respectful discussion. Confidentiality will be invoked for the duration of the Town Hall, and we ask all attendees to respect the confidentiality of their fellow members.
- Town Halls are not spaces for formal motions, votes, or debate. Members are invited to speak, and the Listening Panel is there to listen.
- If an issue is especially complex, personal, or requires individual follow-up, staff may help direct the member to the appropriate department or resource after the Town Hall. This allows the issue to receive more focused attention while preserving time for other members to speak.
