In partnership with Hillsborough College, Hotel Haya presents La Galería at Haya - an exhibition series pulsing through the heart of Ybor City. Set across La Galería and the Valencia Foyer, each rotation introduces a fresh mix of contemporary works, from rising student voices to established regional artists, blending Ybor’s rich cultural.

Join us at Hotel Haya on Thursday, September 3rd from 6:00–8:00 PM for the opening reception of Aspiring Water by collaborative artists Carol Mickett and Robert Stackhouse. Presented in the Valencia Foyer, this special evening explores water as a source of beauty, power, movement, and possibility, while inviting reflection on the importance of environmental stewardship and our relationship with waterways.

This free event will take place in Hotel Haya’s Valencia Foyer, where guests can explore the collection, connect with the artist, and experience an evening of creativity and community.

In Aspiring Water, collaborative artists Carol Mickett and Robert Stackhouse explore water as a source of beauty, power, movement and possibility. Through paintings and prints depicting oceans, rivers and the human relationship to waterways, the artists consider both the vitality of our aquatic environments and the growing threats they face. From the clear waters and thriving live oaks imagined in Aspiring Gulf: Live Oak to the warning of An Imbalance of Fire, the works invite us to consider what a healthy, balanced relationship with water might look like and what we can aspire to create through environmental stewardship.

 

Robert Stackhouse and Carol Mickett are a collaborative artist team who live and work in Florida. Stackhouse received an M.A. in Painting from the University of Maryland in 1967, and Mickett earned a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Minnesota in 1988. Together, they have created monumental public sculptures, paintings, and prints exhibited throughout the United States and internationally, with work held in major museum collections including the Museum of Modern Art and the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden.
