When two trans women, Sam and Jen, find themselves trapped in a multiverse of Shakespeare’s plays, they have to find their way through a mess of monologues and iambic pentameter to escape back to the real world. With only King Henry IV Part 1 between them and freedom, it should be a simple matter of keeping their heads low, playing their roles, and never breaking the rhythm, but when Jen starts to notice that Henry ‘Hotspur’ Percy doesn’t want to play it by the script, they’re left to wonder - are they really the only ones down there?

A madcap exploration of Shakespeare and gender with a mix between the Bard’s work and Abigail Thorn’s original verse and prose, The Prince is a show full of swords, lesbians, and disappointed parents, and asks us to consider what it really means to play out a role in today's society.

KWLT’s production of The Prince is the Canadian premiere of the play and Eliza Grafton’s main stage directorial debut, so come join us in the round as we experience Shakespeare like never before!

Performances will be January 30th through February 1st, February 6th through 8th, and 13th through 15th. Showtime is 8pm on Fridays and Saturdays, and 2pm on Sundays.

Doors will open half an hour before the performance starts. Seating is first-come first-served. The play runs approximately 2 hrs and 15 minutes, with an additional 15 minute intermission.


Special performances:

The Friday, February 13th performance will be designated COVID Cautious performance with extra precautions. Patrons will be required to wear a mask at all times while in the theatre, and asked to consume concessions outside. There is also a lower audience capacity for this performance to allow for distancing. There will be no alcohol sales on this evening

Tickets at the door are $25 for non-members, $20 for members, groups, and youth. Please note that online ticket sales are available up until 1 hour before the performance. Even then, there may still be walk-in tickets available, so please arrive before showtime!

The Prince contains some material that may not be suitable for all audiences, including:

Sexual themes and depictions of onstage intimacy
Depictions of intense violence, including the use of weapons (swords, axes, daggers) and onstage death
Coarse language, including strong swearing and a single instance of the use of a slur for dramatic effect
Themes exploring sexual and gender diversity

KWLT’s production of The Prince includes the use of a number of LED lighting effects and loud or repetitive sound effects that may be disruptive to audiences or affect people with epilepsy.
