Where will we start from:
The route starts at the car park, entrance of Halfords, SE6 4NU at 9.30am (please keep an eye on any updates with the weather, as we may need to reschedule and will update you).
The Route:
For our second ride of 2026, we intend to continue with the easy/leisurely pace.
The three Peaks of Lewisham seem to provide opportunities for good views over London and beyond, connecting with wildlife, trees, shrubbery and rivers.
The three Peaks are :
Hilly Fields
One Tree Hill
Blythe Hill Fields
From Catford Bridge we will go under the bridge, to connect with Ladywell Fields. The park joins Catford to Ladywell and is made up of three fields with a small river running through the middle. If we are lucky, we may see some wildlife. It’s a key cycling and walking route. From there we head over to Hilly Fields via Malyons Road. There’s a water fountain in the middle, if you need to Top up. And we will also try to find the bowling green gate, which was open in 1906, and was named after Sir Francis Drake, who was knighted in Deptford. Drake made his money from the slave trade. Don't worry if you find yourself getting off your bike and walking on any of these short peaks. We will always wait at the top. These are good ways to start to practice and develop hill climbs.
Our second peak - One Tree Hill local nature reserve, which is the essential part of Honor Oak's landscape. A photo op might be possible for Oak of Honor - the famous Oak Tree, (and we may take in, a part of Honor Park). Please Note: You must be able to lift your bike, 4 steps then a slope, at a time. On a clear day the views are great, citing Canary Wharf etc.
Our Final Peak and stop will be Blythe Hill Fields. Again offering great views over London and has a small wildlife gardens, before we head back to Catford Bridge to end the ride. (This ride is only 5 miles approx).
Bonus ride: If people are happy to - (After Blythe Hill - Telegraph Hill Upper & Lower Parks, can be added to this ride for even better views of the Shard and Canary Wharf). This adds 1.8 miles each way to the journey. Total ride would then be 9 miles. (Can be decided on the day).
Who are we:
We ride as a group of people, mainly from an African and African Caribbean background and as cyclists, we ride together regularly, often with a structured schedule, and we have varying levels of abilities.
We aim to start when the weather is improving, which could be as early as January or February. But sometimes it could be as late as March/April, with easier local rides to start the year off, and we increase the distance and go further afield, until November or December (if we are really lucky), and we have been riding together since November 2020.
Who is this ride for:
This ride is a short local ride and is ideal for beginners and/or people who haven’t ridden for a long time and may need to build their confidence.
The ride is for adults only, and we have a mixed ability group. We welcome new riders. On some of our rides, there is likely to be at least one hill, but we try to avoid them where possible. We will wait if you can't make it all the way to the top without stopping, and we are a supportive group. You can sign up for rides when they are published. However, if you wish to join Kweens and Kings Cycling Network and become a member, you will need to complete a registration form, complete at least 6 rides over the course of the year, before you can be added to the WhatsApp group.
If you click on 'follow' on this Ad, you will be notified of all future rides.
