Kumihimo Weaving with Bridie Spelman

Discover the ancient Japanese art of Kumihimo in this engaging and creative workshop, where you’ll craft your own stylish keyring or zip pull from beautifully braided cords. Rooted in centuries-old tradition, Kumihimo transforms simple strands into strong, decorative braids through a rhythmic and meditative weaving technique. Using your chosen colour palette, you’ll learn how to combine cords to create eye-catching patterns that are both elegant and durable. With Bridie’s clear, step-by-step guidance, you’ll see how a series of simple, repeated movements gradually build into intricate designs — a process that’s surprisingly easy to learn and wonderfully satisfying to master.
Perfect for beginners, this mindful craft offers a relaxing escape while allowing you to develop a new skill. Whether you prefer bold contrasts or soft, harmonious tones, your finished braid will reflect your personal style.
By the end of the session, you’ll leave with a beautifully handcrafted accessory that’s both practical and unique — ideal for adding a personal, handmade touch to your keys, bags, or jackets.
Children aged 10 and over are welcome to attend the workshop when accompanied by a paying adult, who will be responsible for them throughout the session.
